Recovery after bunion correction

Driving should only resume when you can safely control the vehicle, are no longer affected by strong pain medication, and have been cleared to do so. Return to desk-based work may be possible earlier than return to a physically demanding role, but it depends on swelling, travel requirements and the procedure performed.

Risks and signs that need prompt advice

All surgery involves risk, although careful planning and post-operative care are designed to reduce it. Potential complications include infection, wound healing problems, prolonged swelling, nerve irritation, stiffness, delayed or incomplete bone healing, recurrence of deformity, transfer pain beneath the lesser toes and problems with fixation. Rarely, further treatment or revision surgery may be required.
